Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan-the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Chairman of the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council-the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) has launched the UAE Award in Higher Education. This pioneering national initiative honors the institutions, individuals, and partners driving excellence and innovation across the country’s higher education and scientific research sectors. Sheikh Abdullah emphasized that human investment is the cornerstone of the UAE’s future, noting that the award aims to foster transformative learning methodologies and turn theoretical research into applied solutions that support national priorities and boost global competitiveness.

By alignment with national goals, the award elevates the educational landscape and accelerates the transition to a resilient, knowledge-driven economy. A core part of this mission is building high-impact alliances between academia and the private sector using student scholarships, work experience programs, and industry-aligned applied research that converts academic insights into commercial solutions. The award ecosystem is structured around four main categories: Leading Universities and Higher and Vocational Education Institutions (Leadership) for benchmark academic and TVET institutions; Transformative Higher Education Projects (Readiness) for projects navigating future global trends; Higher Education Pioneers (Pioneers) for outstanding individual contributions to research, education, and startup culture; and Influential Higher Education Partners (National Impact) for cross-sector integration by strategic allies and international universities.

To select winners, MoHESR utilizes a comprehensive evaluation framework that measures genuine impact, sustainability, and scalable results. The criteria focus heavily on institutional outcomes, the quality of learning and employment, future readiness, emerging technology adoption, and impactful partnerships with economic and industrial sectors. Exceptional contributions will be celebrated with both competitive financial prizes and prestigious honorary recognition. The timeline for the inaugural cycle opens institutional applications from July to September 2026, with the evaluation phases leading up to the final results approval and winner announcements in the fourth quarter of 2026. Educational institutions and individuals can find complete nomination terms, conditions, and participation mechanisms on the awards page at www.mohesr.gov.ae.
