Egypt’s Public Prosecution announced that on April 21 it transferred gold bullions to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) and more than 1.2 tons of silver to the Ministry of Finance.
The handover took place during a ceremony at the Public Prosecution headquarters. The event was attended by the Ministers of Finance; Local Development; and Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, as well as the Governor of Cairo and a number of senior officials from relevant authorities.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Public Prosecution said the move comes as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure the proper management of seized assets, safeguard public funds, and maximize the value of underutilized resources, reinforcing the economic dimension of its judicial role.
The statement added that the Public Prosecution has adopted a systematic approach to managing valuable seized items, based on strong governance and sound oversight. This has helped transform previously idle assets into resources of tangible economic value.
The Public Prosecutor also reviewed progress in the management of impounded vehicles, highlighting upgrades to storage facilities and efforts to eliminate overcrowding. These measures have enabled the return of a large number of vehicles to their owners and the full clearance of the 15th of May area commonly known as the “Graveyard of Vehicles” after decades of congestion. Several other sites across the country have also been cleared to make way for redevelopment projects.
Regarding criminal claims, the Public Prosecutor noted that a new management framework has been introduced. This includes digitizing case inventories, improving classification and prioritization, ensuring regular follow-up, and enforcing administrative seizure in accordance with the law. These steps aim to enhance collection efficiency and safeguard state rights.
