The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) discussed expanding pharmaceutical and regulatory cooperation with Lebanon and Rwanda during separate meetings held on the sidelines of Africa Health ExCon 2026 in Cairo.

EDA Chairman Ali Al-Ghamrawy met with Lebanese Public Health Minister Rakan Nassereldine to explore ways of enhancing collaboration in pharmaceutical regulation, capacity building and regulatory system development. The talks also covered facilitating access to medical products, exchanging regulatory expertise and strengthening cooperation between health and pharmaceutical institutions in both countries to ensure the quality, safety and efficacy of medicines.

Nassereldine praised Egypt’s advanced pharmaceutical regulatory framework and expressed Lebanon’s interest in benefiting from the EDA’s expertise as it works to strengthen its national regulatory system. He also stressed the importance of continued coordination and partnership with Egypt to support institutional development and improve healthcare and pharmaceutical services in Lebanon.

In a separate meeting, the EDA chairman and Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (Rwanda FDA) Director General Emile Bienvenu discussed expanding technical cooperation, knowledge exchange and capacity-building programs. They also discussed cooperation on supporting the registration and circulation of pharmaceutical products to help increase the availability of safe and effective medicines for people in both countries.

Their talks also focused on creating new opportunities for Egyptian pharmaceutical exports to the Rwandan market, in line with broader efforts toward pharmaceutical integration across Africa. During his visit, the Rwandan official met with representatives of Egyptian pharmaceutical companies participating in the exhibition to learn about their latest products and export capabilities.

He also toured EDA laboratories and visited several Egyptian drug manufacturers to review their production facilities and manufacturing technologies. The meetings form part of the EDA’s efforts to strengthen partnerships with African regulatory authorities, support exports and reinforce Egypt’s position as a trusted regional hub for the pharmaceutical industry.
