Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty received a phone call Thursday evening from Steve Witkoff, the U.S. special envoy for the Middle East, to coordinate on regional issues and the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States.

The call highlighted the relationship between President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and President Donald Trump. Both sides described the Egyptian-American relationship as a cornerstone for Middle East stability and expressed a shared desire to enhance political, security, and economic cooperation. Regarding the Gaza Strip, the two officials exchanged views on the transition to the second phase of Trump’s regional plan.

They emphasized the necessity of implementing the phase’s requirements, specifically calling for the commencement of the Palestinian technocratic committee’s work and the deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire. The plan also mandates a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the initiation of early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

The discussion also touched on regional tensions involving Iran. Abdelatty and Witkoff emphasized the need for de-escalation to prevent regional instability and to create an environment where diplomatic solutions and political settlements are prioritized. Witkoff commended Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting regional security and its ongoing efforts to contain crises through political solutions.
