Polish energy group Orlen has completed its first shipment of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to the Japanese market. The delivery of 100 million cubic meters to Osaka Gas, Japan’s second-largest gas utility company, was made by the latest addition to Orlen’s shipping fleet, the Ignacy Jan Paderewski LNG carrier, the company said in press materials.
Japan, one of the world’s largest LNG importers, is a key strategic market for Orlen, CEO Ireneusz Fąfara commented. He said Orlen was “expanding into markets where we have not previously operated, increasing our growth potential and building long-term value for our shareholders.
“The contract with Osaka Gas is an important milestone in our international growth and paves the way for future cooperation,” he added. Vice president of the Orlen management board Robert Soszyński said the entry into the Japanese market reflects Orlen’s broader strategy to strengthen its position as a global LNG player.
“Working with reliable partners such as Osaka Gas allows us to build strong and effective relationships in the global LNG market,” he said. “Transactions such as the delivery to Japan are a natural part of our strategy to strengthen our trading position and confirm our growing role in the global LNG supply chain.”
Tuesday’s delivery was the 41st managed by Orlen’s London trading office using its own vessels and the 15th this year, the company said. The Ignacy Jan Paderewski, which entered service in 2025, is nominally able to carry about 70,000 tonnes of LNG. Built in South Korea alongside its sister ship Józef Piłsudski, it is part of Orlen’s expanding fleet of chartered LNG carriers.
