Researchers at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Tehran, have designed and commercialised a smart personal air cooler with unique features aimed at reducing energy consumption. According to the University of Tehran via Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS, the team, operating through a knowledge-based company, has created a personal cooler that consumes extremely low energy while providing efficient cooling.
Farshid Chini, Head of design and production of the cooling device, highlighted the product’s uniqueness: the device operates with only 10 watts – less than a typical energy-saving light bulb – and allows users to enjoy cool air even during power outages, using a power bank or other portable energy sources.
The device draws inspiration from the capillary system in plant roots, which enables water to be distributed evenly across the cooling pads without a pump. This technology achieves over 90% evaporation efficiency, ensuring effective cooling with minimal water and electricity use. In addition, nano-antibacterial pads prevent the growth of microorganisms and eliminate unpleasant odors, delivering clean air to the user.
