This brilliance comes as a result of the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who directed in 2014 the establishment of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, pursuant to Emiri Decree No. (60), to be a pioneering incubator for the development of marine sports in the emirate, and a platform for organizing its various competitive and recreational activities.
Since its inception, the club has worked to consolidate its position as a regional and global destination, setting strategic objectives based on promoting and developing marine sports, supporting champions to achieve global success, while adhering to the highest standards of security and safety in organizing races, and reviving traditional marine races and encouraging youth participation, within the framework of preserving cultural identity and maritime heritage. The club includes integrated facilities to support modern and heritage activities, and it adopts solid institutional values based on excellence, innovation, sportsmanship, and mutual respect, with a clear commitment to the principles of sustainable development and social responsibility.
The terms of achievements, the Sharjah Formula 1 Powerboat Team has succeeded in consolidating its international presence in recent years, achieving outstanding results in various rounds of the World Championship, and presenting an elite group of names who have proven their competence and professionalism in this type of sport. The team made a strong start to the 2025 season, achieving a podium finish in the opening rounds and continuing its strong presence by maintaining a top-five finish in the next two rounds. This ensures that the team remains among the strong contenders for the world title, with four decisive rounds remaining on the championship calendar, in prominent European and Asian cities.
This success is due to the team’s sound strategic planning and the strong support it receives from the club’s leadership, in addition to the team’s technical excellence, competitive boats, and highly experienced drivers, capable of keeping up with the strongest international teams. The team includes several prominent drivers, including veteran driver Sami Celio, a former world champion with extensive experience in Formula 1 racing, along with Norwegian driver Marius Andersson, who has achieved impressive results with the team in several rounds, in addition to Philippe Rostwaite, Rusty White, and a group of young talents representing the new generation.

His Excellency Khalid bin Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, emphasized that the Sharjah team’s excellence in recent years and its lead in the first rounds of the current season reflects a clear strategic vision and significant support from the wise leadership, which has attached great importance to marine sports and made them an integral part of the emirate’s identity and cultural renaissance.
He added that these successes are the result of integrated institutional work, advanced infrastructure, well-thought-out scientific planning, and advanced training programs, pointing out that ambitions do not stop at the boundaries of a championship or a season, but rather aim to consolidate Sharjah’s position as a major player on the global marine sports map.
For his part, His Excellency Ahmed Issa Al Hosani, Director General of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, explained that the team’s superiority is based on the “trilogy of commitment” represented by player discipline, team spirit, and the club’s continuous support through the provision of the latest boats and technologies necessary for success.
He pointed out that the club is no longer limited to using modern technology alone, but has become an active partner in its development, in cooperation with local universities, experts, and engineers.
