President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Jordan’s King Abdullah II at Cairo International Airport on Sunday, accompanying him to Al-Ittihadiya Palace for official talks that focused on the war in Gaza Strip, humanitarian access, and wider regional tensions, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency.

The visit opened with formal ceremonies at the presidential palace, including a guard of honour, the national anthems of Egypt and Jordan, and an official photograph, before the two leaders held a closed door meeting followed by expanded talks with both delegations. The talks included a discussion of developments in Gaza, with the two leaders stressing the need for the full implementation of the agreement to stop the war in the enclave and the implementation of the peace plan proposed by Donald Trump, according to the presidency.

They also called for strengthening the entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza without restrictions, and for the rapid start of early recovery and reconstruction efforts. The language underscored Cairo and Amman’s push for a sustained pathway that combines a halt in fighting, uninterrupted relief deliveries, and a move toward rebuilding, after what officials described as an exceptionally difficult period for civilians in Gaza.

The Egyptian leader and King Abdullah reiterated their firm rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians outside their land, the statement said. They also addressed the situation in the West Bank, renewing their rejection of violations and what the statement called arbitrary practices targeting Palestinians.

Moreover, the two leaders emphasised that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only way to achieve lasting peace and stability in the Middle East. The talks also covered developments in a number of regional crises, with both leaders stressing the importance of reducing escalation and regional tensions, and strengthening joint action to safeguard stability, according to the presidency.

The statement also said the two leaders highlighted the need to settle crises through peaceful means and to respect states’ sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, while protecting the resources of their peoples, in an emphasis consistent with Cairo and Amman’s long-running coordination on regional diplomacy. On bilateral relations, the presidency said the leaders expressed satisfaction with the trajectory of ties and stressed the need to deepen cooperation across sectors, including preparations for the next session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee.

After the conclusion of the official programme at Al-Ittihadiya Palace, El-Sisi accompanied King Abdullah back to Cairo International Airport to bid him farewell as he departed for Jordan, the statement added. Jordanian media also described the Cairo visit as centred on strengthening bilateral relations and discussing regional and international developments of mutual interest.
