Egypt is set to experience major and unusual temperature fluctuations over the coming days, the Climate Change Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation warned in an urgent report on Monday.

Head of the Center, Dr. Mohamed Ali Fahim, described the period as one of “major thermal oscillations,” referring to it as “thermal pasteurization days” due to the sharp and sudden shifts between rising and falling temperatures.

He noted that the country has just emerged from one of the coldest phases of winter, during which light frost was recorded in desert areas and parts of the central Delta, marking the end of the so-called “white freezing nights.”

According to the report, the days leading up to the start of the Coptic month of Toba will witness dramatic weather changes, with temperatures expected to rise temporarily on Thursday to around 29°C before dropping sharply on Friday to about 16°C during the daytime, accompanied by possible rainfall in northern regions and Sinai.

Fahim cautioned that these rapid transitions from warm to cold conditions pose serious challenges for all standing crops, as they disrupt plants’ physiological processes and increase the risk of thermal and water stress, urging farmers to closely follow technical recommendations to protect their crops during this volatile period.
