Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Monday emphasized Egypt’s readiness to transfer its successful experience in the health and pharmaceutical sectors to other African nations.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting with Jean Kaseya, director general of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), and Hisham Stait, chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement (UPA). The foreign minister commended the ongoing cooperation between Egypt and the Africa CDC, which aims to advance health and pharmaceutical integration across the continent. Abdelatty noted that Egypt views the health sector as a key pillar for achieving sustainable development in Africa.
The top diplomat highlighted the central role of capacity-building programs organized by Cairo through the Ministry of Health and Population in coordination with the Africa CDC. These programs strengthen the health systems of African countries, he said, citing the annual Africa Health ExCon exhibition as a primary example of this cooperation. Abdelatty stated that the exhibition has become a major continental platform for stakeholders in Africa’s health and drug sectors, aligning with Egypt’s efforts to promote the exchange of regional expertise.
The minister also expressed Egypt’s desire to deepen its partnership with the Africa CDC, particularly in developing rapid-response mechanisms for health emergencies and providing medical supplies, vaccines, and emergency equipment. He praised the Egyptian professionals working within the Africa CDC and reaffirmed Egypt’s willingness to provide additional technical and medical personnel to support the center’s mission.
Abdelatty reviewed several presidential health initiatives launched under President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, including the “100 Million Healthy Lives” campaign and the initiative to eliminate hepatitis C. He expressed Egypt’s willingness to expand access to Egyptian-made medicines and health services for its neighbors.
For his part, Kaseya expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s advanced health capabilities and commended the leading role the country plays in supporting public health systems across Africa. Kaseya said he looks forward to cementing collaboration with Egypt and benefiting from its accumulated expertise to enhance health security continent-wide.
