Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held a telephone conversation on Saturday with his Nigerian counterpart, Mr. Yusuf Tuggar. The call focused on ways to enhance bilateral relations between Egypt and Nigeria, as well as an exchange of views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

During the discussion, Minister Abdelatty highlighted the deep historical ties between the two countries and the growing momentum in relations across political, economic, and developmental fields. He reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for efforts aimed at eliminating terrorist organizations operating in Central and West Africa that target innocent civilians.

He also emphasized Egypt’s commitment to continuing its efforts to build the capacities and expertise of national African institutions in order to combat terrorism and promote comprehensive development. For his part, Minister Tuggar praised Egypt’s role in supporting African countries in their fight against terrorism and commended the comprehensive approach Egypt adopts in addressing this challenge. He stressed the importance of continued cooperation and the exchange of expertise to support regional security and stability.

Minister Abdelatty also reviewed recent developments in the Middle East, stressing the importance of coordinated international efforts to ensure the consolidation of the ceasefire agreement and the transition to the second phase of the plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. He reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any actions that would undermine the unity of Palestinian territory or impose new realities in the West Bank. He further condemned ongoing settlement expansion and called on the international community to halt escalation and settler attacks against Palestinian civilians, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and initiate early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

Regarding developments in the Horn of Africa, the two ministers affirmed their complete rejection of Israel’s unilateral recognition of the so-called “Somaliland.” They reiterated their support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, as well as for the country’s legitimate state institutions. Both ministers described Israel’s unilateral action as a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, warning that it would undermine stability in the Horn of Africa.
