Space42 announced the development of the UAE’s first sovereign mobility cloud, based on Core42’s sovereign public cloud and leveraging Microsoft Azure. The initiative will contribute to accelerating the deployment of autonomous mobility solutions, while ensuring that data is hosted securely within the country and complies with national legislation.
The Sovereign Mobility Cloud constitutes an integrated platform that supports the UAE’s sovereignty in the field of smart transportation. It provides a reliable infrastructure that supports mobility data and autonomous systems. It also provides advanced platforms for high-resolution maps, remote communications, fleet management, digital twins, and traffic management, in addition to providing a secure environment for data exchange between government agencies, academia, and various sectors.
The initiative’s next phases include launching pilot projects, regulatory testing centers, and testing centers in cooperation with the country’s transport authorities, while engaging global partners from the automotive, technology, and university sectors to expand the scope of the integrated work system. The sovereign mobility cloud combines Space42’s expertise in mobility solutions with the sovereign cloud infrastructure provided by Microsoft and Core42.
Space42 will lead application deployment, coordinate with regulators, and drive solution adoption through pilots, demonstrations, and commercial launches. Core42 and Microsoft will provide the sovereign cloud infrastructure from their data centers in the UAE, along with AI platforms and data governance and security frameworks to ensure data sovereignty and compliance with local regulations. Microsoft will also provide training, technical expertise, and joint investment to support the growth of the operational infrastructure.
The initiative represents a strengthening of the ongoing collaboration between Space42 and Microsoft, which previously included the launch of the Africa Map Initiative in collaboration with Esri in July 2025, and the availability of Space42’s Geospatial Intelligence (GIQ) platform through the Microsoft Azure Store.
Space42 is at the forefront of innovation in the autonomous transportation sector. Since 2021, Space42’s TXAI service has logged more than 600,000 kilometers of safe autonomous driving and nearly 20,000 passenger trips in Abu Dhabi, with a fleet covering Saadiyat, Yas, Al Maryah, and Reem Islands, as well as Abu Dhabi International Airport. In addition to its autonomous taxi services, Space42 continues to develop smart mobility solutions that include high-resolution maps, digital twins, and AI-powered fleet management, in collaboration with regulatory and academic bodies to ensure innovation aligns with global safety standards and best practices.
