Following a brief lull this morning, severe weather conditions will continue across Iceland today, with red weather warnings in effect for the capital region from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Authorities advise residents to stay indoors and avoid travel. Schools will operate with minimal staffing.

The severe storm that swept across the country yesterday subsided partially overnight, but new red weather warnings will take effect from 7:00 AM, starting in the Eastfjords and the Central Highlands, Vísir reports. In the capital region and West Iceland, a red weather warning will take effect at 8:00 AM and remain in place until 1:00 PM.

As reported by RÚV, a hazard warning is in effect on many roads, and the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration warns that vehicles susceptible to strong winds should not travel between regions. A number of institutions will be closed, and schools in the capital region will operate with minimal staffing.

School operations will be affected today due to the red weather warning. However, primary schools and preschools will not be closed but will operate with minimal staffing. In cases of absolute necessity, parents must notify school administrators of a child’s attendance via email.
