Emsteel Group, one of the largest steel and building materials producers in the region, today announced the launch of its Sustainable Steel Program, TrueGreen™. This new strategic identity reflects the group’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and unifies its decades-long efforts in decarbonization.
This initiative establishes advanced standards for transparency and accountability in the sustainable steel industry and follows a series of notable achievements, such as Emsteel’s distinction as the first company in the MENA region to receive ResponsibleSteel™ certification and the first entity worldwide to launch a pilot project for the use of electric heaters in the steel industry.
The TrueGreen™ Sustainable Steel Program provides an integrated framework that enables developers, contractors, and financiers to benefit from internationally certified sustainability solutions. It contributes to achieving emission reduction targets, enhancing competitiveness in tenders targeting sustainability standards, and ensuring compliance with global legislation, most notably the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
All steel products are provided with environmental declarations verified by independent bodies, and are supported by advanced digital systems to accurately monitor emissions and ensure the carbon footprint of each production batch is determined, thus establishing principles of transparency and accountability.
On this occasion, Engineer Saeed Ghumran Al Romaithi, CEO of Emsteel Group, told Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the TrueGreen™ announcement that the new program represents an integrated umbrella that unites the various sustainability and climate neutrality initiatives the company has worked on over the past decades.
He explained that the Sustainable Steel Program provides each product with certifications accredited by independent international bodies, including accurate data on its carbon footprint. This reinforces the principles of transparency and credibility and enhances customers’ ability to meet the growing global demands for sustainable construction.
He pointed out that these practices give Emsteel’s products a competitive advantage in markets and tenders that adopt strict sustainability standards, emphasizing that the growing demand for the company’s products reflects the global trend toward reducing emissions.
He added that the group’s early adoption of sustainability in its industrial operations enabled it to achieve emissions levels approximately 45 percent lower than the global average for the steel sector. He noted that this result was the result of significant investments in advanced carbon capture and storage technologies and strategic partnerships that strengthened Emsteel’s position among the world’s leading companies in this field.
It’s worth noting that the program is closely aligned with the UAE’s strategy for climate neutrality by 2050 and supports the Nationally Determined Contributions 3.0 initiative, which aims to reduce construction sector emissions by 79% by 2035. Emsteel contributes to consolidating the UAE’s position among the world’s leading industrial decarbonization efforts, thanks to its emissions intensity of just 0.67 tons of carbon dioxide per ton of steel, far below global averages.
Through its TrueGreen™ Sustainable Steel Program, Emsteel continues to expand its impact through strategic partnerships with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, the Emirates Green Building Council, and a select group of international accreditation bodies, contributing to shaping the future of low-carbon construction.
