Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, held a telephone call on Friday with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and Sudan. At the outset of the call, the UN Secretary-General asked that his greetings and appreciation be conveyed to the President of the Republic, praising his role in supporting security and stability in the region amid increasingly complex regional crises and challenges. Guterres also commended Egypt’s continued efforts to promote international peace and security.

Discussions on Gaza focused on ongoing efforts to advance the implementation of the second phase of the US President’s plan. Abdel-Aty stressed the importance of moving forward with the next steps, including the deployment of an international stabilization force, support for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, the opening of the Rafah crossing in both directions, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. He noted that these measures would help consolidate stability and create conditions for a return to normal life in Gaza.

The foreign minister also emphasized the need to complete the implementation of the second phase and to launch early recovery and reconstruction efforts based on a comprehensive approach that prioritizes the needs of Gaza’s population. The call also addressed the situation in Sudan, where Abdel-Aty underlined the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce and establishing safe havens and humanitarian corridors as a step toward a comprehensive ceasefire. He stressed the necessity of launching an inclusive, Sudanese-owned political process. Abdel-Aty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position on respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, preserving its unity and territorial integrity, and supporting its national institutions.
