Polling stations opened earlier today in Los Angeles, California, marking the first day of voting in the runoff of Phase 2 of the 2025 House of Representatives elections.
Voting abroad begins at 9:00 a.m. and continues until 9:00 p.m. local time, in accordance with the National Elections Authority’s decision outlining the procedural and time schedule for the House of Representatives elections. A one-hour break is scheduled at the discretion of the head of the polling station committee to ensure the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
The National Elections Authority’s central operations room is monitoring the opening of polling stations around the clock to ensure the orderly and efficient conduct of the elections. The National Elections Authority, headed by Judge Hazem Badawy, issued Decision No. 56 of 2025 concerning the rules and procedures governing voting by Egyptians residing outside the Egypt in the House of Representatives elections.
The decision stipulates that every Egyptian residing abroad has the right to vote, provided that their name is registered in the voter database and that they possess a valid national identity card or a passport containing their national identification number. The elections are conducted by direct, secret ballot, and each voter must exercise this right personally. Only a valid national identity card or a passport bearing the national identification number is accepted as proof of identity.
Voting takes place at consulates, diplomatic missions, or other locations designated by the National Elections Authority upon the nomination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Committees supervising the voting, counting, and sorting out of ballots are formed from a sufficient number of members of the diplomatic and consular corps, assisted by one or more secretaries from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as appointed by the National Elections Authority.
