Warsaw: SiltaNews – News Desk
A Turkish hitman armed with a loaded pistol and 26 rounds of ammunition has been seized by police in the heart of Warsaw. The 43-year-old, wanted under an Interpol Red Notice, was arrested after officers swooped on the unsuspecting gunman on the corner of a busy street. The man is accused of belonging to a violent organized crime group behind murders, kidnappings, and armed attacks in Turkey.
“Special security procedures were implemented due to the fact that the man may have been armed and attempted to escape at all costs,” said Jakub Pacyniak of the Warsaw city center police force. According to local news outlet RMF FM, the man arrived in the capital a few days ago and was in hiding.
The suspect has now been remanded in custody for three months and charged with possessing a firearm and ammunition without a permit. His arrest came about thanks to intelligence from Turkey and cooperation between Warsaw police officers and Poland’s Central Anticorruption Bureau, Pacyniak added.
The Interpol Red Notice served as an international alert that enabled Polish authorities to identify, locate, and provisionally detain the suspect pending extradition proceedings.
