Thailand’s Loy Krathong festival, which draws thousands of local and international visitors each year, is expected to generate more than US$200 million in revenue for the country in 2025, according to the Vietnam News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) forecasts that the event will contribute around 6.54 billion baht (approximately US$184 million) in tourism income. Around 1.91 million tourists are expected to take part in the celebrations and related cultural activities.
Major “Maha Loy Krathong” festivities will be organised by the TAT in two historic provinces, Sukhothai and Ayutthaya, as well as in five major cities, including Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Tak. These seven provinces are projected to attract around 430,000 visitors and generate 2 billion baht (about US$56 million) in revenue, supported by a government subsidy scheme promoting domestic tourism, according to TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool.
Chiang Mai has also seen rising interest from new tourism markets, particularly the Middle East, thanks to the introduction of new direct flight routes. This growing connectivity is expected to further boost Thailand’s tourism sector, strengthen international ties and support the country’s economic growth.
