President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a key meeting to review the latest developments in the implementation status of the New Delta Project, Egypt’s ambitious national agricultural expansion initiative.
The President met with Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation; Major General Amir Sayed Ahmed, Presidential Advisor for Urban Planning; Major General Walid Mohamed Aref, Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority; and Colonel Bahaa El Ghanam, Executive Director of the ‘Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development’ Project.
Mohamed El Shenawy, Official Spokesperson for the Presidency, stated that the meeting addressed the progress of the New Delta Project and strategies for maximizing the utilization of water resources and enhancing their efficiency to support national agricultural production schemes. Discussions specifically covered the executive status of the Northern Source of irrigation water designated for the project.
President El-Sisi emphasized the critical need for close monitoring of all agricultural projects, especially the New Delta scheme, through robust cooperation between the government and the Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Agency. This synergy aims to significantly boost the agricultural production sector and achieve food security for strategic crops.
The President also stressed the importance of strengthening the principle of partnership with the private sector in agricultural infrastructure. He called for creating ample opportunities for private companies to drive a significant leap in these projects.
During the meeting, the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation presented the executive status of the project to construct the water conveyance path for agricultural drainage water to the New Delta station. Work is ongoing on the project, which includes 12 pumping stations and a 166 km conveyance path, with an implementation rate reaching 85%.
In this regard, President El-Sisi directed officials to continue work on the conveyance path and the associated pumping stations strictly according to the set timelines. He also stressed the need to continue implementing the National Project to Regulate the Nile and strictly remove all encroachments on the Nile River course.
