Poland have struck gold in the men’s double sculls at the World Rowing Championships in Shanghai, finishing more than a second ahead of Serbia in Friday’s final. Mateusz Biskup and Mirosław Ziętarski pulled ahead early and extended their lead as the race progressed. They crossed the finish line 1.6 seconds ahead of the Serbian duo, while Ireland took bronze.
The victory crowns the Polish pair’s exceptional season. In May, they won the European Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, after shifting their focus from the quadruple sculls. They later impressed at the World Cup regatta in Shanghai, setting the stage for their latest triumph.

Friday’s win marks Poland’s second medal at this year’s world championships in China.
