Cairo: SiltaNews – News Desk
A new group of Palestinians returning to the Gaza Strip arrived Tuesday morning at the main square of the Rafah border crossing on the Egyptian side, in preparation for their return to Gaza. Sources at the crossing stated that a team from the Egyptian Red Crescent received the returning Palestinians at the Rafah border crossing.
Red Crescent teams are facilitating procedures in coordination with the relevant authorities, distributing meals, water, and juices, as well as sweets and chocolates to children and providing psychological support. Meanwhile, Egyptian authorities are preparing to receive the seventh group of wounded and sick Palestinians from the Gaza Strip for treatment in Egyptian hospitals. The Egyptian Ministry of Health has established a medical point at the Rafah border crossing to examine arrivals, triage cases, and transport them to hospitals via equipped ambulances.
The Rafah land crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip was reopened in both directions last Monday, allowing Palestinians to travel between the two countries. Israel then closed it from the Palestinian side on Friday and Saturday, citing the weekend, before reopening it again two days ago. Sources indicated that the reopening of the Rafah crossing came after the second phase of the ceasefire went into effect, following Egyptian and American pressure. This followed Israel’s closure of the crossing from the Palestinian side in May 2024.
Over the past few days, six groups of Palestinians have returned to the Gaza Strip, while Egypt has received a number of wounded and sick Palestinians for treatment in Egyptian hospitals. The Egyptian Red Crescent is also providing a comprehensive range of humanitarian services at the Rafah crossing, including psychological support, especially for children who have suffered as a result of the war.
