Trade between Iran and Russia’s Orenburg Region has increased 4.5 times year on year, underlining the rapid expansion of bilateral economic cooperation at the regional level, Governor Evgeny Solntsev has announced. This is reported by Nour News, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to Solntsev, trade with Iran accounted for 3.6% of Orenburg’s total foreign trade turnover over the past nine months, representing a 4.5-fold increase compared with the same period last year. He described Iran as a strategically important partner and one of the region’s key counterparts in external trade. Agricultural goods dominate Orenburg’s exports to Iran, making up 98.9% of total shipments, with sunflower oil forming a substantial share of deliveries.
Commenting on a recent visit to Orenburg by an Iranian delegation led by the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kazan, Davood Mirzakhani, the governor said discussions focused on expanding trade flows, strengthening economic cooperation, increasing exports, and exploring prospects for joint investment projects. “Our objective is not only to boost exports but also to move towards deeper cooperation,” Solntsev said.
He noted that joint initiatives are already under way in areas such as livestock production and the mineral and raw materials sector. The governor also highlighted the importance of cultural exchange, noting growing interest among Iranian partners in the history of Russia and its border regions. In addition, the two sides reached agreements on the organisation of joint exhibitions, aimed at further promoting economic, industrial and cultural interaction.
