Egyptian, Norwegian FMs Discuss Regional Developments and Global Crises

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held a telephone call on Saturday with Espen Barth Eide, Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the latest regional developments. Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the two ministers exchanged views and assessments on a number of key regional issues, foremost among them the situation in the Gaza Strip.

During the call, Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of concerted international efforts to ensure the consolidation of the ceasefire agreement and to move forward with arrangements for the second phase of the plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. He reaffirmed Egypt’s firm rejection of any practices that could undermine the unity of Palestinian territory or impose new faits accomplis in the West Bank. In this context, he strongly condemned the continued expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank and underscored the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities in halting escalation and settler attacks against Palestinian civilians.

He also emphasized the necessity of ensuring unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to Gaza’s population and creating the appropriate conditions to launch early recovery efforts and reconstruction. Minister Abdel Aaty further commended Norway’s supportive stance on the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. The spokesperson added that the call also addressed the situation in Sudan, during which the Egyptian foreign minister briefed his Norwegian counterpart on Egypt’s efforts within the framework of the Quartet mechanism to push toward a comprehensive ceasefire.

He reiterated Egypt’s steadfast position in support of Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability, as well as the preservation of its national institutions. He also stressed the importance of the international community fulfilling its humanitarian responsibilities by ensuring the provision of safe havens and sufficient humanitarian corridors to guarantee the unobstructed delivery of aid. Regarding developments in the Horn of Africa, Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia and its legitimate institutions.

He rejected any unilateral measures that could infringe upon Somali sovereignty and condemned attempts to impose parallel entities that undermine the unity of the Somali state. He also expressed Egypt’s categorical rejection and condemnation of violations of established principles of international law and the United Nations Charter. The two ministers agreed on the necessity of respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity as a cornerstone for maintaining the stability of the international system. The ministers also discussed the Ukrainian crisis, agreeing on the need to reach a peaceful and diplomatic settlement that would contribute to regional and international security and stability.
