Egypt-US Agree on Need to De-Escalate Regional Tensions, Seek Political Solutions

Egypt and the United States have agreed on the need to reduce regional tensions and enhance joint efforts to reach political solutions to ongoing crises. This alignment was reflected during talks between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs on Wednesday, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement. During the meeting, both sides emphasized the need for increased consultation and coordination on regional issues, particularly developments in Sudan, Libya, and the Horn of Africa, with the aim of supporting regional stability.

The meeting reflected convergence in the two countries’ views on addressing regional conflicts in a way that enhances regional security and stability, while safeguarding states’ sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peoples’ resources. Boulos praised Egypt’s role in promoting peace and security in the region and commended the ongoing coordination between Cairo and Washington on key regional files with the aim of reducing escalation and achieving stability.

Sudan Crisis: During the talks, El-Sisi stressed that Egypt will not allow any attempts to undermine Sudan’s security or stability. El-Sisi expressed appreciation for President Donald Trump’s keenness on ending the war in Sudan and reiterated Egypt’s support for regional and international efforts aimed at achieving security and stability there. El-Sisi stressed Egypt’s firm position in support of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

Water Security: Meanwhile, El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s water security as an existential issue and a top priority for the country, stressing its direct link to the country’s overall national security. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Head of the General Intelligence Service (GIS) Hassan Rashad attended the talks, alongside US embassy officials, including Deputy Chief of Mission Evyenia Sidereas.
