Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s unwavering support for the Palestinian Authority (PA) as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people during a high-stakes call with Palestinian Deputy President Hussein Al-Sheikh on Tuesday. The call served as a critical follow-up to recent high-level meetings in Cairo, focusing on the implementation of the transitional phase for governance and security in the Palestinian territories.

A central theme of the discussion was the transition to the second stage of the peace plan outlined by U.S. President Donald Trump. Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s commitment to: Empowering the PA: Ensuring the Palestinian Authority is fully equipped to assume its administrative and security responsibilities across all Palestinian territories, with a specific focus on the Gaza Strip. UN Security Council Resolution 2803: Utilizing the resolution as the legal and operational framework for the transitional period.

Technocratic Governance: Backing the formation of a Palestinian technocratic committee to manage civilian affairs and maintain territorial unity. Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s deep concern over the escalating violence in the West Bank. He issued a stern condemnation of the repeated incursions, civilian targeting, and accelerated settlement expansion, warning that these actions directly undermine the prospects for regional stability and a viable political path forward.

Hussein Al-Sheikh praised Egypt’s pivotal role in the diplomatic process. He lauded the continuous coordination with Cairo and reaffirmed the PA’s commitment to a just and comprehensive settlement based on international legitimacy. The Palestinian leadership reiterated its goal of establishing an independent state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The call concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain intensive daily coordination to navigate the transition and ensure the humanitarian and political rights of the Palestinian people are preserved during the implementation of the new regional roadmap.
