Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty has praised the Norwegian energy company Scatec’s plans to boost their investments in the Egyptian market as he met with the company’s CEO, Terje Pilskog, on Wednesday.
Abdelatty highlighted Scatec’s plans to establish a wind turbine manufacturing facility aimed at localizing the industry, as well as a solar-powered desalination plant, in line with the Egyptian presidential directives to expand the company’s activities in the country. The meeting formed part of efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between Egypt and Norway in the renewable energy sector, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.
During the meeting, Abdelatty welcomed the strong level of existing cooperation between Egypt and the Norwegian firm, noting that the partnership contributes to advancing economic and investment ties between the two countries. He stressed the importance of further expanding collaboration in renewable energy, underscoring the sector’s growing strategic importance.
The minister highlighted the Egyptian government’s commitment to empowering the private sector, attracting additional foreign direct investment, and supporting foreign companies operating in Egypt. Abdelatty further commended Scatec’s efforts to launch multiple partnerships to implement major projects that support industrial localization in Egypt. He underscored the country’s strong natural resources, investment opportunities, and skilled human capital.
Discussions highlighted the government’s efforts to promote the green economy and ongoing initiatives to position Egypt as a global hub for green hydrogen production, reaffirming Cairo’s full support for the Norwegian company’s projects in Egypt. He also expressed Egypt’s aspiration to enhance trilateral cooperation across Africa to implement development projects, particularly in renewable energy, reflecting Egypt’s keenness to expand its presence in Africa and support development initiatives.
