The Egyptian and Bahraini leaders has called for fully implementing US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, recently endorsed by the UN Security Council Resolution 2803. Trump’s plan on Gaza led to a prisoner-swap agreement and a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel in October, after two years of relentless Israeli strikes that have killed more than 70,000 Palestinians.
The plan, endorsed by the Security Council in mid-November, includes provisions for post-war Gaza governance and reconstruction, while aiming to demilitarize the enclave and create conditions for the Palestinian Authority’s return to administration. In a phone call on Thursday, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa highlighted Trump’s plan as a framework for achieving a just and comprehensive peace, the presidential spokesman said in a statement.
The two leaders stressed the need for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the enclave and for unhindered, urgent delivery of humanitarian aid. They also underlined the importance of launching reconstruction efforts to help restore normal life for Gaza’s population.
President El-Sisi and King Hamad expressed categorical rejection of any attempts to forcibly remove Palestinians from their land. They stressed that the Palestinian cause remains at the forefront of Arab and international priorities.
The two agreed to maintain close coordination in light of the difficult circumstances the region is going through with the aim of ensuring a unified Arab position. Besides the Palestinian cause, the conversation also highlighted the special Egyptian-Bahraini relations at the bilateral level and discussed means of enhancing cooperation in various fields, according to the statement.
