Egypt and seven other countries welcomed the invitations extended for their leaders from US President Donald Trump to join the Gaza Board of Peace. The foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar announced their countries’ collective decision to join the board in a joint statement on Wednesday.

The ministers noted that each state will complete the joining documents according to their respective relevant legal and other necessary procedures, the statement noted. In the statement, the ministers reaffirmed their support for peace efforts led by President Trump. They reiterated their commitment to backing the mandate of the Board of Peace as a transitional body, as outlined in the comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza and as adopted under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.

The minister underlined the board’s mission in consolidating a permanent ceasefire, supporting the reconstruction of Gaza, and advancing a just and lasting peace based on the fulfillment of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state in accordance with international law. They emphasized that these steps are intended to help lay the groundwork for security and stability for all countries and peoples of the region.

The Board of Peace (BoP) is a newly established organization under Trump’s peace initiative, linked to the second phase of the Gaza peace plan and endorsed by the United Nations. Under this plan, a Palestinian technocratic committee has been formed to manage daily life in Gaza, including security and essential services, under the supervision of the BoP. Trump has invited dozens of world leaders to join the BoP, including around 35 leaders who have so far agreed to participate, Reuters reported, citing a senior White House official.

Countries that have approved to join include Israel, NATO members Turkey and Hungary, as well as Morocco, Kosovo, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Paraguay, and Vietnam. Russia and China have not yet indicated whether they will join the initiative. Meanwhile, Norway and Sweden have declined the invitation, and several other European countries are still considering their positions.
