Bolivia recorded a notable increase in lithium carbonate exports, reaching US$19.6 million by August 2025, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
This figure represents a 1,145% growth compared with the same period last year, when sales totalled US$ 6 million, according to Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS, citing official data from the INE.
With 23 million tonnes of certified reserves, Bolivia maintains one of the largest lithium deposits on the planet. Lithium carbonate is mainly used in the production of rechargeable batteries for vehicles and electronic devices.
In this context, the South American country has explored a strategic partnership with China to strengthen the industrialisation of its lithium sector, according to the Bolivian Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy.
This partnership takes into account China’s leadership in innovation and sustainability in the production of lithium-ion batteries, as well as the importance of international cooperation to make use of Bolivia’s vast reserves and advance towards a clean energy transition.
Meanwhile, the country’s overall manufacturing exports amounted to US$ 2.495 billion, an increase of 2.6% compared with the same period last year.
