In implementation of Royal directives, the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) said it dispatched a humanitarian aid convoy to Syria on Thursday, in coordination with the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army (JAF). JHCO said in a statement that the aid convoy aimed at supporting communities affected by the recent unrest in southern Syrian city of Sweida. Dozens have been reportedly killed in violent clashes in July between Bedouin tribes and local Druze fighters in Sweida.

The 14-truck Jordanian convoy was accompanied by a Qatari aid convoy comprising 27 trucks loaded with food and medical supplies, JHCO said, adding that the joint initiative reflects a coordinated Jordanian-Qatari effort, as well as a broader Arab endeavour, to provide urgent relief to Syrians facing deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Sweida.

JHCO Secretary-General Hussein Shibli said the aid convoys were coordinated with the Syrian government to facilitate entry through the Jaber/Nassib border crossing. “The supplies will be handed over to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent for distribution to vulnerable populations in Sweida and displacement shelters in Daraa and Rural Damascus,” he said. Shibli expressed appreciation for the Syrian government’s cooperation in allowing the aid to reach all affected areas, and acknowledged its efforts to improve humanitarian conditions across the region.
