It was a bittersweet day for the remaining European teams at the TotalEnergies BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2025. Denmark are through to the quarterfinals, as second in their group after a tough loss to Indonesia. France and England played their final group matches, already out of the race but still giving it their all on their last day.
Denmark had already secured their spot in the quarterfinals but faced Indonesia today to fight for the top spot in Group D. Things started well for the Danes, who took the opening point in a close mixed doubles match but from there, it was a difficult day on court for the Danish stars.
Anders Antonsen battled through three games and fell to Alwi Farhan, 17-21, 21-15, 17-21. Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt struggled against Putri Kusuma Wardani, losing 6-21 5-21. Indonesia continued their successful campaign, with Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Alexandra Bøje/Line Christophersen losing their matches, resulting in a 4-1 win for the Indonesians.
With this result, Indonesia comes out on top of the group, with Denmark as second. This means Denmark will now face one of the other group winners – China, Japan, or Korea – in tomorrow’s quarterfinals. It won’t be easy but the Danes will be looking to bounce back.
In the evening session, France and England had their final group matches. While both teams were already out of the race for the knockout stage, they fought until the end. France wrapped up their Sudirman Cup journey with a big win over Australia, finishing on a high note, 4-1. England fell 3-2 to India but put up a solid fight, with a couple of matches going to three games.
