The multidisciplinary, high-density Shanela 2 Safer Festive Season Operation, aimed at intensifying the fight against crime, delivered positive outcomes with numerous arrests in the Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2.

The operations were conducted simultaneously and jointly by members from Mogwase, Sun City, Mabeskraal, and Dwarsberg police stations, together with the Rustenburg Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. Their focus included businesses trading illegally or in counterfeit goods, enforcement of the Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000) and the Road Traffic Management Corporation Act (Act 20 of 1999), as well as tracing wanted suspects.

During the operation:

• 145 vehicles were stopped and searched, along with 215 occupants.

• 49 traffic fines amounting to R26,400.00 were issued.

• 20 suspects were arrested for crimes such as assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH), common assault, rape, and malicious damage to property.

• Firearms compliance inspections resulted in two cases registered for contravention of Section 120(8)(a) of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (failure to store firearms in a prescribed safe/strong room).

• One illegal immigrant was apprehended for contravention of Section 49 of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act 13 of 2002).

Additionally, members acted on information about a suspect harbouring tortoises. Upon arrival at the address, police discovered the animals and arrested a 55-year-old suspect for possession of protected species.
