Greenland: Siltanews – News Desk
US Vice President JD Vance has hinted at the possibility of the United States acquiring Greenland, endorsing President Donald Trump’s previous interest in the Danish territory. In an interview with Fox News, Vance framed the potential acquisition as a national security issue, stressing the strategic importance of Greenland’s location and its underutilization by Denmark, which governs the island.

Vance argued that Greenland’s proximity to key Arctic trade routes, coupled with its importance in global maritime traffic, made it crucial to US interests. He accused Denmark of not adequately fulfilling its duties as an ally, and suggested that if the US needs to assert more territorial influence over Greenland, President Trump would pursue that path regardless of European objections.

Despite Vance’s assertions, a recent poll indicated that 85% of Greenland’s population opposes US ownership, revealing a stark contrast to the administration’s claims. Critics suggest that Trump’s interest in the island is likely driven by its untapped natural resources, such as oil, gas, and critical minerals, rather than purely security concerns. While the territory holds strategic value, some observers view Trump’s stance as part of a broader expansionist agenda.
