Proposed sale will improve Norway’s capability to meet current, future threats, says Pentagon.
The US State Department approved the possible sale of AIM-9X Block II tactical missiles to Norway, the Pentagon said Friday.
The estimated cost is $370.9 million.
“The proposed sale will improve Norway’s capability to meet current and future threats by ensuring aviation forces’ interoperability with the United States and other NATO members,” it said in a statement.
The principal contractor will be RTX Corporation in the state of Arizona, it added.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of the possible sale Friday.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress about the possible transaction, which aims to enhance Norway’s aviation forces and ensure interoperability with the U.S. and NATO allies. The AIM-9X Sidewinder is a short-range air-to-air missile with infrared homing, thrust vectoring, and enhanced tracking capabilities, making it effective against both airborne and ground targets
