A Polish city has been voted the best destination in Europe for a short trip by travelers from the United Kingdom, topping a new survey. In the survey by consumer organization “Which?,” Poland’s southern city of Krakow beat Venice, Barcelona, Berlin, Rome and all other renowned European cities, with people appreciating its atmosphere, attractions, affordability and cuisine.
“Krakow was the only city in our survey to clinch the full five stars for value for money,” “Which?” said in a report. “Visitors also gave it full marks for food and drink.” In addition, Krakow earned top marks for its ease of navigation, making it a particularly traveler-friendly destination. The city was also praised for its relaxed atmosphere, diverse cultural landmarks and excellent shopping – all enjoyed without the hassle of large crowds.
Krakow is a city full of history and charm. At its heart stands Wawel Castle, a Renaissance gem that was once home to Polish kings. The UNESCO-listed Main Market Square is a must-see, with St. Mary’s Basilica and the historic Cloth Hall at its center. The city is also rich in culture, boasting the National Museum, contemporary art museum MOCAK and the Oskar Schindler Factory Museum. Meanwhile, a walk along the Vistula River offers beautiful views that make the city unforgettable.
Krakow has plenty of green spaces to enjoy. Planty Park, a leafy ring around the Old Town, offers shady paths and quiet benches. Within the city, the Zakrzówek artificial lake stands out with its turquoise waters and limestone cliffs, a unique natural spot not far from the center. Nearby, the Skałki Twardowskiego park adds rugged trails and caves, making it a great place for a calm walk in a more wild setting.
