U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau is set to begin an official tour of Africa on Sunday, with scheduled visits to Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti.
In a statement released on Saturday by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Landau said he was “very excited” to be embarking on his first visit to the four countries, describing the tour as an important opportunity to strengthen engagement with key partners on the continent.
Landau stressed that the visit aims to support President Donald Trump’s priorities, particularly in advancing trade and economic relations, as well as promoting security and peace across the region. He highlighted the strategic importance of cooperation with African nations in addressing shared challenges and fostering mutual prosperity.
The Deputy Secretary of State also underscored the value of direct, in-person diplomacy, noting that despite advances in modern communication technology, face-to-face meetings with world leaders remain the most effective way to build trust and deepen cooperation.
