Russian Ambassador to Egypt, Georgy Borisenko, gave a speech at the International Conference on the Russian Language, held in Cairo Tuesday.
The event celebrates Russian language students and teachers globally. Borisenko emphasized the critical role of Russian language students and teachers, calling them a “vital link” between Russia and the world.
He stressed that their linguistic knowledge allows them to access firsthand information about Russian events from Russian media, rather than depending on American and European news sources.
Borisenko added that the work of these educators fosters interest in Russian history and culture, promotes mutual understanding and respect, and expands cooperation across various fields. He described the teachers and students as “ambassadors for Russia.”
He lauded President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s focus on Russia, expressing Russia’s readiness to cooperate “with pleasure and in a constructive manner” with its foreign partners in all fields, noting that its educational institutions are open to new generations of African students.
Ambassador Touts Multipolar World
Addressing the current geopolitical landscape, the Russian ambassador stated that the present era is neither “simple nor peaceful” and warned of the threat of world war.
He accused Western countries – which he said have dominated the world for 500 years and seek to maintain the status quo – of bearing responsibility for this instability. Borisenko asserted that the West, primarily represented by NATO, is increasing military and economic pressure on Russia, which they view as an obstacle.
He claimed the West seeks to weaken and destroy Russia to achieve its neo-colonial ambitions, including those in Africa, where European colonial powers left a “heavy legacy.”
Ambassador Borisenko reiterated Russia’s vision for a multipolar world where “all countries enjoy equal rights and choose their development path without threatening others.” He pointed to the BRICS group, established at Russia’s initiative and including Egypt, as a model for this new world order.
