Iran has put forward an initiative to establish a joint network of scientific laboratories for BRICS countries. The goal is to reduce the cost of scientific research and narrow the technological gap between the member states of the grouping. The proposal was voiced at a meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Research Infrastructure and received support from the participants. This was reported by Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS. According to Iran’s Vice President Hossein Afshin, the idea is to jointly use costly laboratory equipment. This will reduce expenses related to the creation of laboratory infrastructure and make technologies more accessible.
The proposal is based on Iran’s existing national model of a laboratory network. BRICS countries agreed to study it in detail for possible adaptation. Iran has consistently promoted the issue of reducing technology costs through cooperation at international platforms, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Similar issues have previously been discussed with the Chinese side. Regional cooperation in the laboratory sector is also being developed with the countries of the Persian Gulf.
