Cairo: SiltaNews – News Desk
Egypt is expected to witness relatively stable weather conditions Thursday across most parts of the country, with warm temperatures during the daytime and very cold conditions at night and in the early morning hours, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA). Dr. Manar Ghanem, a member of the EMA’s media center, said in televised statements that temperatures today are higher than the seasonal average by about five to six degrees.
Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach around 25°C in Greater Cairo, while Upper Egypt governorates such as Luxor and Aswan are expected to record highs of 30–31°C. Ghanem explained that coastal areas will experience slightly lower temperatures, ranging between 23 and 24°C, noting a clear difference in how the weather is felt between northern and southern regions. Northern areas will see generally warm conditions, while the south will be warmer to hot, due to the country being affected by desert air masses and the extension of a high-pressure system in the upper layers of the atmosphere.
Despite the daytime warmth, nighttime temperatures are expected to drop, with relatively improved minimums compared to the beginning of the week, ranging between 12 and 13°C, though the sense of cold will persist, especially late at night and early morning. Ghanem also confirmed that a fast-moving low-pressure system will begin affecting the northwestern coasts this evening, bringing light to moderate rainfall that may become heavy and thundery at night, particularly over coastal areas and the northern Nile Delta.
The period of unstable weather is expected to last for about 24 hours on Friday, accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h over inland governorates and up to 70 km/h over the Mediterranean Sea. Wave heights are forecast to exceed five meters, leading to disrupted maritime navigation. Looking ahead, the EMA expects a noticeable drop in temperatures tomorrow, with values decreasing by six to seven degrees. Maximum temperatures in Greater Cairo are expected to range between 18 and 19°C, alongside increased sensations of cold due to strong winds and rainfall across most northern governorates.
