In recent months, Swedish authorities have been monitoring a variety of sites they fear may be a target for bomb attacks.
Despite that, another bomb went off at a home in Stockholm in recent days, a site that police had been staking out just hours before. There have already been 19 bomb attacks in Sweden since the beginning of 2025. Similar incidents have occurred before at addresses that the police had already been keeping an eye on.
Mats Eriksson, press spokesperson for the Stockholm Police Region, says that they have surveillance at several addresses in the Stockholm area. ‘We cannot watch all of those addresses under surveillance all the time,’ he said.
During the first attempt, a security guard discovered smoke coming from two thermos flasks placed outside the company building. The thermoses contained 2 kilos of explosives, but the explosives were ham-fistedly assembled and did not detonate.
Explosions around the country have become an almost everyday occurrence, so much so that the national press barely reports them all now. Motorcycle gangs, rival gang members, anti-Semites, Islamic fundamentalists and young people doing it for fun have been those mostly blamed. In 2024 there were a total of 124 bomb attacks in Sweden, and given the number of explosions reported in just the first few days of 2025, it appears to be a growing trend.
