{"id":5431,"date":"2025-01-26T13:33:48","date_gmt":"2025-01-26T13:33:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/siltanews.com\/?p=5431"},"modified":"2025-01-26T13:33:49","modified_gmt":"2025-01-26T13:33:49","slug":"sweden-turkiye-to-hold-security-meeting-in-ankara","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/siltanews.com\/ar\/sweden-turkiye-to-hold-security-meeting-in-ankara\/","title":{"rendered":"Sweden &amp; T\u00fcrkiye to hold security meeting in Ankara"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sweden: Siltanews &#8211; News Desk<\/strong><br>Sweden and T\u00fcrkiye will hold a key meeting to improve their security cooperation, especially against PKK\u2019s presence and activities on the latter\u2019s soil, in line with a bilateral agreement that allowed the Swedish admission into NATO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting, dubbed the Security Compact, will be held under the leadership of the two countries\u2019 foreign ministers, Hakan Fidan and Maria Malmer Stenergard, on Jan. 21, in the capital Ankara, according to diplomatic sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya and Sweden\u2019s Justice Minister Gunnar Str\u00f6mmer will also attend the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Security Compact meeting was scheduled for Sept. 18 but was canceled as the plane carrying the Swedish delegation had to return while on route to T\u00fcrkiye due to a technical problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to sources, Fidan will convey T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s expectations from Sweden in the field of counterterrorism especially in the fight against PKK, YPG and FET\u00d6, disallowing their propaganda and fund-raising activities. He will also underline T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s concerns over a rising far right, Islamophobia and racism in Europe and stress that impactful struggle against these trends are essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He will also recall T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s aim to deepen bilateral cooperation in the defense industry after the lifting of arms restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision to create the Security Compact mechanism was made at a meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and then NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg during the alliance\u2019s Vilnius summit in July 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>T\u00fcrkiye had green-lighted Sweden\u2019s and Finland\u2019s joining the alliance only after these two Nordic states agreed to fight against the presence of PKK and other anti-T\u00fcrkiye terror organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A trilateral agreement signed between T\u00fcrkiye, Sweden and Finland in June 2022 stipulated the implementation of a road map that outlined the measures these two countries will fulfill in combating terror. Finland entered NATO in 2023 and Sweden in early 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sweden and Finland have taken important steps in line with this agreement in the past years.
